Shiva/Airsoft PowerBurst

The AirSoft product is actually a pretty interesting solution for remote node applications. The product offering is comprised of remote PC nodes connected via modem and a Powerburst agent, that resides on the LAN that can service up to 64 remote nodes. The remote nodes run AirSoft's WIN3.1/3.11 redirector and the Powerburst agent is a Novell specific DOS program that runs on a user supplied, dedicated PC, or as an NLM directly on the Netware Server. The goal of this product is to reduce the amount of redundant information being transmitted over the low speed dial in links.

The fundamental difference in architecture between Shared LAN Cache and Powerburst is that the Shared LAN Cache Server is located on the same segment as the SLC Clients and is a logical extension of our non-volatile LAN caching model. The Powerburst agent resides on the same segment as the file server and improves performance by only sending data bytes to the Powerburst client that have actually changed. The load on the file server and the LAN segment is unchanged as the Powerburst agent does 100% of the work requested on behalf of the Powerburst clients. The performance gain comes from the speed differential between the LAN segment compared to the remote connection speed.
