Shared LAN Cache™

Measurement Techniques, Inc. of Stoughton, MA, proudly introduces Shared LAN Cache™, a breakthrough in network file caching technology that dramatically improves the network performance of PCs.

Ideal applications for Shared LAN Cache (SLC) include:

• Caching Windows application software installed on file servers - Dramatically improves PC performance while off-loading up to 80% of the load on file servers and network segments.
• Caching documents/files written to servers - Eliminates 50% of the network/file server load.

SLC Technology

SLC improves network performance by redirecting redundant file read requests to a combination of local and shared non-volatile caches. Local caching on the PC provides near hard-disk performance, reduces network segment traffic and unlike network switches, off-loads existing file servers. Additionally, the shared cache of the optional SLC Server is ideal for off-loading remote file servers, WANs, routers and bridges from redundant read requests.

SLC is easy to install, NOS independent and requires no changes to existing file servers. All file security, file rights, access methods and application monitoring/metering work without modification. The SLC redirectors are compatible with all NetWare, NT, NFS, LAN Manager, Vines and PathWorks clients.

Cost Effective Upgrade

Shared LAN Cache is the single most cost effective upgrade available to enhance the performance of PCs running applications and accessing files across networks. The cost of upgrading to SLC is only 10% of the cost of upgrading network nodes to 100M Ethernet. And unlike 100M Ethernet, SLC also off-loads existing file servers and improves WAN performance. Compared to hardware upgrades which can take weeks and months to deploy, SLC can be up and running on an entire network in less than a day.

SLC Enhances Productivity

Once installed, SLC enhances productivity by reducing the time it takes for PC users to access large files across LANs and WANs. Application software, documents, spreadsheets, imaging, electronic faxes and other files are automatically cached, significantly improving access times to these files. Caching redundant read requests also off-loads the network making it more responsive for other applications and users writing data to the file servers further enhancing user productivity.

Availability

The SLC Client software is available today for DOS 3.X+, Windows V3.1 and V3.11 starting at $69/node. Native Windows 95 and NT clients will be available Q296. Shared LAN Cache Servers start at $2995 with a 500M non-volatile cache and a 25 user shared license. Volume prices, and discounts for distributors, VARs and OEMs, are available.
