SLC Support for Windows 98
Stoughton, MA -- January 15, 1998, -- Measurement Techniques, Inc., the leader in network caching, has just released V1.51 Shared LAN Cache that works with the Microsoft Windows 98. Microsoft has provided developers and end users with Beta previews of 98 and expects to begin volume shipments of Windows 98 in June.
"Shared LAN Cache™ (SLC™) version 1.51 allows companies evaluating deployment strategies for the latest version of Windows 98 to take advantage of persistent network caching," said Clinton Battersby . "MTI has a complete family of caching products that work with all of the Microsoft Windows versions including 3.1, 95, 98, NT 3.51 & NT 4."
MTI’s patent-pending Shared LAN Cache technology improves network performance by caching recently accessed files in a combination of local and shared caches. Both the shared cache of SLC Server and the local cache of MTI’s SLC Client software incorporate non-volatile caching to eliminate redundant read requests over the network. While most caches in use today are volatile, losing their contents when power is shut down, data in SLC's non-volatile cache is retained and is available immediately when power is restored.
Shared LAN Cache products are NOS (Network Operating System) independent and compatible with all network operating systems including NetWare, NT, OS/2, LAN Manager, NFS, Vines and PathWorks.
SLC Client software is licensed per user and is priced at $5000 for a 100 user license with volume pricing available. The SLC Server is packaged as a Windows NT Service and begins at $1,750 for 25 users.
