There is little debate today about the need for caching on PCs to enhance the performance of slow devices including local hard disks, CD-ROMs and CPU memory systems. Although a LAN is just another relatively slow device connected to the PC, LAN caching has been virtually forgotten as a technology to enhance network performance. Shared LAN Cache (SLC) is the new low cost solution to speed workstation performance across local area networks.
