For Immediate Release
The SLC client software was originally packaged as an advanced DOS protected mode TSR which used approximately 200K of extended memory but still required 25K of conventional (below 1MB) DOS memory. SLC now ships with a native Windows 3.1/3.11 client, removing the requirement for any low memory. The native Windows SLC client runs as a Windows application, automatically hooking into the Windows kernel when it is loaded. This allows the SLC client to be loaded like any other Windows application making it easy to deploy on large networks without any changes to user INI files.
SLC addresses the increased performance required as application software, imaging and other large files are moved from local PC hard disks to file servers across LANs and WANs. Shared LAN Cache is easy to use and requires no user configuration or setup. All file security, rights, access methods and application metering work without modification. Shared LAN Cache improves performance by redirecting PC workstation requests to SLC local and shared caches instead of the file server where the file is actually opened. The file servers continue to be responsible for all administrative/security issues as well as mass storage and archive.
